Build a Medieval Army Roster

This Army Roster page explains how to think about soldiers in Build a Medieval Army (Medieval War Tycoon). Instead of a fake encyclopaedia of invented stats, we map real unit categories and named gamepass soldiers to roles you can use tonight. For letter grades, use the Troops Tier List. For exclusives, use Prestige Units.

Roster philosophy

Every durable army needs:

  1. Home anchors that make flag theft expensive.
  2. Pressure pieces that create openings for steals.
  3. Hold pieces that contest or keep the hilltop for +20% income.
  4. A restock plan so one wipe does not end your session.

If your yard is only prestige trophies or only cheap spam, you are playing half the game. Balance shows up in successful returns and survived counter-raids—see How to Capture Flags and How to Defend Your Base.

Core unlock path units

Tycoon recruits. Your baseline soldiers from normal progression. Early on, volume matters more than pedigree. Spend code cash into continuous recruitment using Early Game Income priorities.

Upgraded variants. As shops unlock, specialize some slots into tougher anchors or better pressure. Do not upgrade vanity first while your gate is naked.

Praetorian (free via ZedCo group). Treat it as a permanent roster member. It improves early fights and costs no Robux—claim it immediately.

Named gamepass soldiers and tools

These are part of the practical roster even though they are purchases—rank value on Gamepasses Tier List:

  • Heavy Soldier — anchor-leaning presence for messy gates.
  • Assassin Soldier — pressure and picks on key targets.
  • Spartan Soldier / Roman Legion — disciplined combat identity for midfights and pushes.
  • Berzerker Giant / Giant ZED — swing units for contested spaces.
  • Archer Squad (+4) — ranged space control for hills and layered defense.
  • Cloned Troops / Troop BUFF — volume and amplification for almost any core.
  • Catapult Troop / Sky Fort — siege and pressure angles versus turtles.
  • Heal Spell — sustain for prolonged holds (support slot in the “roster”).

You do not need all of them. You need the ones that fix your failure mode.

Example roster templates

Starter template. Praetorian + tycoon recruits + strict home floor + one pressure group for nearby flags. Redeem codes from the Codes Hub. Learn routes via How to Play.

Hill template. Frontline anchors + archer/buff volume + a rotate squad that can abandon hill if base alarms fire. Premium’s +10% cash makes holds more rewarding when you keep them.

Castle template. Dense anchors, heal support, clones/buffs, limited raid party with a timer. Favor defense habits over highlight steals.

Prestige prep template. Efficient restockable units, economy focus, avoid irreplaceable ego comps. Plan exclusives with How to Prestige and the Income Prestige Planner.

Mixing prestige exclusives into the roster

When exclusives arrive, slot them as centerpieces, not entire armies. An exclusive anchor behind empty side doors still loses flags. Read Prestige Units for targeting, then rebuild supporting cast around the exclusive’s role.

Soft factors players forget

  • Controls comfort affects micro—see Controls Hub.
  • Code timing can fund an emergency restock after a bad defense.
  • Lobby reading changes ideal mix more than a single tier letter.
  • Updates can shift roles—check Updates Hub.

Mistakes that “break” a roster

  • No home floor.
  • All assassins, no anchors.
  • All giants, no income plan.
  • Ignoring Praetorian.
  • Scripts that auto-buy junk—ban risk on Scripts Hub.

Sibling pages

Return to Units Hub, compare Troops Tier List, and keep guides open while you test templates in live servers.

A good roster is a role checklist you can restock—not a museum of every gamepass thumbnail.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Build a Medieval Army players.

What units should beginners buy first?

Claim the free Praetorian, then build tycoon recruit volume with a home garrison before specializing into gamepass or prestige centerpieces.

How do I balance offense and defense units?

Assign a minimum anchor force to stay home, then send a separate pressure group for flags and hill. Never empty the gate for one raid.

Where are prestige exclusives listed?

On the Prestige Units page. Use How to Prestige before resetting just to unlock names.

Are clones and buffs “units”?

They function as roster multipliers. Cloned Troops and Troop BUFF change how strong your core composition feels on the map.

Should I copy a YouTube army exactly?

Copy roles and timing, not only cosmetics. Adjust for your lobby, budget, and whether you can restock after a wipe.
